Sci Fi Channel is teaming with Will Smith’s production company for a new crime drama.

The network has ordered “Unfinished Business,” a series about an ex-cop who starts seeing flashes of memories from the recently deceased. The visions compel him to help wronged souls resolve their unfinished business.

The network, which changes its name to Syfy on July 7, plans to air “Unfinished Business” as a two-hour movie that will also serve as a potential series pilot. (more…)

Seems we are not done with getting sequels to series we thought were done, but at least this one is less than 20 years old. The money machine known as Men in Black is planning its return with a third chapter.

Cinematical shares:

there were no further announcements as far as cast and release date, however Sony probably wouldn’t launch another Men in Black film without at least Will Smith’s participation. Will Tommy Lee Jones reprise his role, too, or will Smith get himself a new partner in crime?

I always liked the clever casting of agents who are supposed to be unmemorable having generic names like Smith and Jones. (more…)

90 million votes were cast (that’s a new record) for the Nickelodeon’s 22nd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards which featured first-time host Dwayne Johnson and The Jonas Brothers getting slimed big time, and Leonardo DiCaprio picking up the very first Big Green Help Award at the 2009 event held on March 28th. Actress and metal rock musician Jada Pinkett Smith, of Baltimore, remarking about rumors that she and her husband Will Smith are in a marriage of convenience because they are both secretly gay. She also said their school is not a Scientology school, but that the method of teaching is a product of L. Ron Hubbard — the founder of the Scientology who, incidentally, claimed that homosexuality can be cured through scientific feedback therapy.

Jackie Chan told a film Web site that his forthcoming update of the “Karate Kid,” from producer Will Smith, will carry a different name in order to avoid unfair comparisons to the original.

“They don’t want to call it ‘Karate Kid’ any more,” Chan told FirstShowing.com. “They want to call it ‘The Kung Fu Kid.’”

March 31, marks the DVD release of the heavily promoted film Seven Pounds. The film was anticipated as the Christmas season blockbuster, it was previewed to film-going audiences in theaters for several months leading up to the December 21st release. The trailer was drowned in self-prasie and sentimentalized jump cuts, all held under the mysetery of the protaganist Ben Thomas (Will Smith) and his “secret.” Thomas conspires to change the lives of seven people in a redemption mission, which reason is unclear in the two-minute trailer and the bounty of the subsequent film. Hollywood superstar WILL SMITH is to open another school with his wife JADA – following the success of the couple’s new Leadership Academy in California.

The pair launched the New Village Leadership Academy in Calabasas, California last year (08), which will teach pre-kindergarten children through to sixth grade at age 11-12.

And now Pinkett Smith has announced that they hope to open a companion high school, which will take pupils from the age of 11 until graduation. (more…)

Will Smith gave Ralph Macchio quite the surprise recently, calling the Karate Kid star out of the blue to talk about his remake of the 1984 film. Smith’s a producer on the updated kickfest, and his son Jaden is set to star.

“It was very cool,” Macchio tells E! News. “He called and said, ‘Would you mind getting on the phone with my son?’ I felt like Yoda to young Skywalker.”

The original Daniel-san, who currently has a guest spot on ABC’s Ugly Betty, said Jaden was “adorable and completely respectful and excited. I just told him to have fun. That was my advice.” (more…)
