Will Smith is the undisputed king of the July 4 weekend movie blockbuster — and this year is no different.
In his latest film, “Hancock,” Smith plays a superhero with a mysterious past and a bad attitude. The actor refers to the title role as a “bum superhero”
“He is rude. Mean to kids,” he told Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith. “Like that was so bizarre and opposite to, you know, what my natural instincts (are). It actually was difficult for the first couple of weeks, but actually turned into one of those guilty pleasures.” (more…)

Jamie Foxx, Amanda Peet, Chris Daughtry, Queen Latifah and a very pregnant Minnie Driver turned up at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre Monday night to watch Will Smith save the world once again, this time as an ambivalent superhero in Hancock.
But where was Smith’s main man, Tom Cruise, who has turned up at almost every one of Smith’s movie premieres since Cruise and Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, co-starred in 2004’s Collateral?
“He still had some things to do for Valkyrie,” said Pinkett Smith of her friend’s 2009 Adolf Hitler assassination plot drama. “But he let us know, ‘Sorry, I can’t make it tonight.’ ”
Pinkett Smith wowed in a jade Herve Leroux gown, while her husband called himself “aggressive” for turning up in a Tom Ford checkered suit. “I was feeling sexy about myself,” said Smith, 39. (more…)

They say the pen is mightier than the sword.
And in Hollywood, sometimes a Sharpie can be more important than the box office—at least when it comes to Will Smith and his pal Tom Cruise.
The Hancock star tells USA Today about the friendly stars’ long-standing rivalry about who spends the most time signing his, well, John Hancock.
“It’s hard to beat that dude,” says Smith. “He has another gear. He did 2½ hours in France for Mission: Impossible on the red carpet. Now when I go to France, people will say, ‘You know, Tom was out here for 2½ hours.’ ” (more…)

Box office champ Will Smith has become as synonymous with the Fourth of July as fireworks and backyard barbecues - but the star says he takes nothing for granted as he opens yet another summer holiday blockbuster with his new action film, “Hancock.”
“I feel like I have a relationship with the audience,” Smith told Matt Lauer on the TODAY set, winding his way through a cheering throng of fans. “They agree they are going to go in droves, and I agree that every time they go, it’s going to be better than the last time.”
Smith, 39, has launched such all-time action hits as “Independence Day” and “Men in Black” on Fourth of July weekends past. And now he is an odds-on favorite to add another film financial bonanza to his resume with “Hancock,” in which he plays a boozy comic book-style hero who has a bad attitude and often does more harm than good. HANCOCK star Will Smith has told T4’s Steve Jones that he may be about to appear in a Bollywood movie.
Speaking in the Channel 4 show, Smith said: “I’ve made a couple of speculative deals in India. We’ve got some Bolly-Will movies going on!”
There is a little bad news though. It seems that Big Willie may not be about to star in a new BAD BOYS movie anytime soon.
“I probably won’t do that. There have been pitches, and the concept is genius for ‘Bad Boys 3′ but I’ve moved on now.” He said.
