Smiths’ “strong” family inspires Michelle Obama

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Hollywood couple WILL SMITH and JADA PINKETT SMITH have a new fan in U.S. First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA – because the couple has such a “strong family”.

The First Couple has a long list of celebrity supporters – Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Bruce Springsteen and Renee Zellweger all travelled to Washington D.C. last month (Jan09) to witness Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony.

But Michelle Obama has still yet to entertain her dream guests – the I Am Legend star, his actress wife, and their kids.

When asked who she was still “dying” to meet, the mother of two tells People magazine, “Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. He strikes me as a very interesting and conscientious individual with a very strong family.”

But the First Lady admits she’s still star struck in the face of Hollywood A-listers.
She adds, “We met a lot of great people over the Inauguration – Tom Hanks. I was pretty starstruck over him and his wife. I get starstruck around (TV personality) Barbara Walters and folks like that. I try to play it off, but they’re pretty impressive.”

The Smiths, who married in December 1997, are parents to 10-year-old son Jaden, eight-year-old daughter Willow, and the actor’s 16-year-old son, Trey, from his first marriage.

Will and Jada Reach Out to Chris and Rihanna

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

At the NAACP Image Awards on Thursday night, Will Smith told “Extra” that he and his wife are supporting Chris Brown and Rihanna. “Jada and I reached out to both of them,” Will said. “If it’s help they need, then let’s get it right.”

Speaking out about the alleged attack involving Brown and Rihanna, Smith commented, “This is a time where they need to be left alone and if they have things they need to work out, work it out.”

Smith urged the public to stop speculating about the incident saying, “People should take a minute before they jump on it and judge. We don’t know nothing. If there are mistakes people make, then they should be willing to live up to the mistakes and do whatever penance they need to do. I don’t think it’s up to us, specifically the media, with such a fast hand to try to chop someone’s head off.”

Will Smith, Sam Raimi, Invisible Monsters and Martial Arts

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

There’s a whole load of information out there, and it seems most of it is in Production Weekly. I love that magazine-come-directory and think I might have to invest in a subscription of my own, even at their stellar price of $59.95 per month. Perhaps they’ll give me a freebie if I get their logo tattooed on my butt or something. (more…)

Will Smith’s $100 million streak is over

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Will Smith’s historic box-office streak seems kaput.

For the last two weekends, his latest film, Seven Pounds didn’t even register among the 30 top-grossing films, leaving its domestic take stuck just shy of $70 million.

Not bad for a Powerball jackpot.

Pretty good for a film whose title and advertising left fans perplexed.

But a major downer for the former Philly rapper. (more…)

Will Smith leads Forbes star bankability list

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Will Smith was named Hollywood’s most bankable star in a survey of movie industry professionals released on Tuesday by Forbes.com, the Web site of financial magazine Forbes.

Smith, who received a perfect 10 on the survey, was followed on the Forbes list by Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio and Hollywood supercouple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who were all tied with a score of 9.89.

John Burman, special projects director for Forbes Media, said Smith, who won fame on 1990s television sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” can star in any movie genre. (more…)

Will Smith to get his Angel on

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Will Smith and Sony have snapped up the rights to the first book in a planned three-book series by Danielle Trussoni. Director Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, and the most recent Bond) is involved in the dea for Angelology, which Viking Press only grabbed the rights to itself mere days ago.

Hot material? It has National Treasure/Da Vinci Code and Constantine elements in it– a little mystery, a little Biblical mythology, a conspiracy, a little supernaturalism.

Oh, and a 23 year old nun is the heroine. Sounds VERY film-friendly. But is there a role for Will (maybe as the Angelologist hero/villain of the title)?
