Will Smith won an apology and undisclosed damages in a London court on Friday over a false claim that he had described World War Two Nazi leader Adolf Hitler as a “good person”.

The Oscar-nominated star, one of the world’s most popular and highly paid actors, was left deeply distressed and acutely embarrassed over the wrong story published by an entertainment newswire service, the High Court heard.

Smith’s comments, originally published in the Scottish Daily Record newspaper, were then “wholly misrepresented” by the London-based World Entertainment News Network (WENN), Judge David Eady was told.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell) has joined the cast of Seven Pounds. The film re-unites The Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino with his star Will Smith in another ‘weepie’ drama. Sitcom writer Grant Nieporte (8 Simple Rules … for Dating My Daughter) wrote the story about “a suicidal IRS agent (Smith) who sets out to make amends by assuming the identity of his younger brother. His plans get complicated when he inadvertently falls in love.” Ealy has signed to play the younger brother, and judging by the storyline for the film, I have a feeling we’ll mainly be seeing him in flashbacks.

Despite being a huge Hollywood movie star, Will Smith hasn’t forgotten his former music career as one half of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.

The I Am Legend actor is set to perform a couple of dates with his old friend this summer.

“Jeff and I perform a couple of times a year,” he says. “We’re going to go out there in July and we’re checking out some places throughout the world to do some big shows. To circle back to that golden age of hip hop – we’re planning some things.”
